| Subject: [CLOSED] Min's Critic Desk 17th June 2012, 13:23 | |
| First topic message reminder :Hi guys, I've always loved to get constructive criticism for my singing ever since day 1, and I realised that many people here would love to get some feedback too, so I'm opening my own little critic area for people to submit their videos and get some opinions too. My music background: - Spoiler:
I started playing the piano around the age of 5, and started singing at 6, although my singing sucked all the way. I only started taking vocal classes in November 2011, and I went on hiatus for a long time because of exams.
I started playing the French Horn in 2010 in the school band. I used to take vocal classes at a rather reputable performing arts school. This performing arts school has been featured on KBS, Mnet and SBS, and they're sister schools to Climix vocal academy in Korea which has taught a few of the current K-pop stars.
My vocal classes are mostly pop vocals though. So I can teach you basics on not sounding nasal, using vibrato, expanding your range and all that whatnot.
I have performed onstage a total of 20 times before.
One of the performances is a singing performance that took place on August 18th 2012 in a concert by my performing arts school. And another time was when I sang solo in a shopping mall.
All languages are fine, but I'm most comfortable with critiquing English, Chinese and Korean songs. I'll be marking upon a hundred marks. Do take note that I will not be afraid to fail those who I believe did not do well. I will not honey over my words either, and you will definitely be seeing a harsher side of me in this topic. So just fill up this form: - Spoiler:

I'll be judging based on - Spoiler:
1. Pitch 2. Emotion 3. Tone 4. Pronounciation & rhythm 5. Overall enjoyment 20 marks each
Please only post up one cover per week! Thanks! Since I'm a very picky person, 80 marks is considered pretty good. Over here will be the links of covers that have gotten over 80 marks: 1. JasmineMarshiana's Twinkle Cover-90/100 2. TKhearonline's 那些年 Cover-86/100 3. HanisBack's Xiang Fei De Zi You Luo Ti Short Cover-86/100 4. Llorta's Gossip Cover-82/100 Warning: if you guys cannot take honest opinions, please do not apply for a critic from me. Thanks.By the way, from now on, please only submit 1 entry to be critiqued every 5 critiques, or I will drown under the number of critics and shut down again. Thanks.

Artist: Vocaloid Link: https://www.box.com/s/by6ob07flt8cc7l5oupd Comments(if any): This is actually Shiori posting for him, cuz my troll is a lazy bum ._. - Gossip:
Pitch: 16/20 I've never heard this song before, but based on what my ears tell me, he's pretty on pitch. There were some wonky notes here and there, but they weren't very noticeable. I didn't deduct much, though, since this song has very difficult pitching. The fast notes and the strange melody lines at certain parts makes it very easy for people to go out of tune, but he didn't go off a lot, so it's pretty impressive. The harmonies that he did at one point was also pretty accurate and went very well with the main melody. :)
Emotion: 17/20 Pretty good emotion, with the right snazzy feel to it that the song has. I like how he dropped the long note at the last part of the song. It had a very stylistic feel to it. So good job!
Tone: 14/20 How do I say this? I can't decide whether I like his tone or not. On one hand, it has a very nice resonating quality to it while on the other hand, he is extremely nasal. But even so, his nasal-ness wasn't terrible to listen to, since the nice part of his tone kind of made it better. There're ways to reduce nasal tones, and he should work on that. On the bright hand side, this song has a lot of allowance for people with nasal tones so it went well together.
Pronounciation & rhythm: 20/20 His rhythm was fantastic. So was his pronounciation.
Overall enjoyment: 15/20 I probably would have liked this more if he wasn't so nasal. But otherwise, I do like this a lot. The harmonies at one part really made me really happy hahahaha.

- Song : Beautiful
Artist : Christina Aguilera Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNOI4w9hnLk Comments : Live cover with the instrumental playing on the computer - Beautiful:
Pitch: 15/20 Overall it was pretty on pitch, but there were moments when you went off. Especially at the low notes, sometimes you went flat because you dropped the note. At some jumps in the notes, you went sharp because you overshot the note. Do take note! But it's pretty on pitch for a live cover, so I took away less marks than I would've for a pre-recorded cover.
Emotion: 11/20 The emotion in this cover felt pretty flat to me. As in, there was not much variation in the energy level of this song, and you were also lacking in the energy aspect.
Tone: 14/20 You have a nice, gentle tone. But you don't have power, which kind of made this cover fall flat for me because it ended up sounding monotonous. The high ending adlib was nice, though.
Pronounciation & rhythm: 16/20 Your rhythm was fine, but I have a bone to pick with your pronounciation. There were certain words that sounded off to me. But taking into consideration that English isn't your first language (am I right?), I took away less points than I would with someone who speaks English as a first language.
Overall enjoyment: 8/20 This is a very nice song, and I'm so sorry, but I didn't really like your cover. I got bored pretty fast because there was hardly any variation in your volume level, your emotions and energy-wise.
Total: 64/100
Requests are still closed! I'm just doing this because I think I left these requests to rot for too long OTL I'll do more when I have the time. I'm not even sure whether the people who want critiques are still on this site... :/ |
