I don't know why, but I felt like opening up a thread for singing help. Here you can post any questions you have about singing like "How to sing in Vibrato?" "How to increase my range?", and etc. And someone will answer your question and try to help you improve your singing. Either I will answer it, or someone else will answer it for you. People can also correct other's answers if they think the person is giving wrong information. Or they could add on.
NOTE: I'm just a 14 year old and I'm not a singing teacher nor do I take singing lessons. I just study singing online a lot.
Ok...now for our first question. Well this was my question when I started out, and people still ask this question a lot..so here we go.
Lets help everyone improve! ^_^~
Question: How do we sing from our diaphragm? Answer: (By Daphne) This just has to do with breathing from your stomach (well...you can't really breathe from your stomach..but it seems like it). Some people who sing take breathes that rise their shoulders, and that's not the correct way of breathing. When you're breathing from the diaphragm you're supposed to have your tummy extend out along with your back muscles and your rib cage has to expand too. And during all this your neck, shoulders, and jaw should be all relaxed.
Well if you're still confused you can look at this video. This video is just part one of four parts..., but it tells you and shows you what I explained above. After you watched this video, I suggest you watch the other parts! ^_^

Not just singing from your diaphragm, breathing from your diaphragm is better for your body~! If your stomach deflates as you breathe in, then you're doing it wrong - it should inflate and balloon

One way, is to belt those notes - basically yell with everything you've got Another way is to sing with your mix voice - which is a mix between chest voice and head voice Overall, doing scale exercises can help to transition between notes - making it smoother

Well, I'm soo not a professional or as experienced as the others here, but here are the things I have done since last octiber and I have noticed a bit of an improvement.
1. Start by singing songs with a medium range (no really high/low notes). 2. After a few of those and confidence and voice is strengthened, challenge yourself with a song that has a slightly lower/higher pitch in it like a few more high notes. After practicing this you'll see an improvement. I remember attempting sixth sense ages ago and although I didn't reach the high notes, my range was still improved. 3. keep challenging yourself, it really helps to improve!!
As for vibrato, apparently I have good vibrato, but I'm not sure how to teach it. Singing for me is a feeling I get at the roof of my mouth when it's a high or low note. It's like the sound is bouncing off of there. Sometimes I feel it vibrating too (maybe the vibrato?). This is how I know I'm in tune. I dunno how to explain, it's a feeling for me..
AND SING FROM THE DIAPHRAGM!!
Hope this helps anyone!!

@PiggyMelody Heh good question. Although I don't know the FULL answer, I do know something about singing higher.
Answer: (By Daphne) Well there are 2 kinds of high notes that you might be talking about. There's the kind of high notes that classical singers make. And there's the kind you hear in pop music and other things we listen to today.
And I'm just gonna guess that you're talking about the 2nd high voice and move on.
So when you're singing high notes it certain songs like..let's take Ailee's Heaven for example. They have those high notes in the chorus, but when she sings it sounds like chest voice. Right? What she's using (and this is what other singers use too) is mix voice. The mix voice is a blend of head voice (the sound the classical singers make) and chest voice (your talking voice)
(*NOTE: Some people get mixed voice confused with belting. Belting is just using ONLY chest voice [No head voice] and I recommend you do NOT use this. It can really damage your vocal cords and you could feel that, cause when you belt, it hurts.)
Ok so...now that you know what mixed voice is. I'll tell you how you can achieve it. 1) I'd start doing exercises for Chest Voice for a few days to a week. (If you need exercise ideas, just ask for it in another question XD) Things that will strengthen your chest voice and make it clearer sounding I guess. (Remember when singing chest voice don't go higher than you feel comfortable.) 2) Then I'd do exercises for the head voice for a few days to a week. 3) Then I'd start doing these exercises here: Nay Nay Nay Exercise - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SN2XXiVPNmw&feature=relmfu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe6I4l1cOmo NG Exercise - Use the ng sound in sing and go up and down with it...lol do you get it? If you don't get it just tell me and I'll make a recording of me doing so. Or you could just google it XD
These exercises connect your head and chest. The more you do these exercises the more your brain will remember to work the correct I guess you could say.
LOL I hope this isn't too confusing. The key to get there is consistency and never giving up! ^_^ GOOD LUCK
